Cycad sp. - George C. Yao Perpetual Cup for Best Palm and Cycad
Cycads are an ancient group of plants , with a fossil record as far back as 250 million years ago. It is distinguished by a crown of large divided leaves and a large trunk, and often mistaken as palms or big ferns.
Cycads range across the tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world, with about 300 species in 3 families and 12 genera. Cycads have separate female plants which bear seeds and male plants with cones containing pollen.
