Flora Filipina 2009 Expo

The Philippine Orchid Society hosted the Flora Filipina 2009 Expo at the Quezon City Hall grounds (Lagoon area) from February 6 to 16, 2009.

The theme of this year’s event was “Discovering the Best and Rarest Philippine Flora”. The main objectives of the event were to unite and uplift the ornamental plant industry, to showcase new and rare plant varieties, to encourage research & production, and to disseminate new horticultural technologies.

The Expo had an exhibit area comprising of 32 booths and a separate commercial section comprising of 120 booths. Daily free lectures on various plant topics were held at the exhibit area.

Opening ceremonies were held on February 5, 2009 with Las Piñas Representative Cynthia Villar, Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte, Jr., Meralco Chairman Manolo Lopez, and Department of Tourism Undersecretary Cynthia Carreon as guests of honor.

The Expo began with a 2-day Scientific Conference from February 6 & 7, 2009 at the Bureau of Soils, Visayas Avenue corner Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City.

An on-the-spot painting contest was held in the exhibit area on February 6 & 7, 2009.

An organized tour to various plant nurseries and tourist destinations in the Laguna and Batangas area was held on February 8 & 9, 2009.
