Neoregelia is a genus belonging to the bromeliad family. The genus was named after the Russian botanist Edward von Regel, and was originally classified as Regelia or Aregelia, but reclassified by Lyman B. Smith as Neoregelia in 1890.

Neoregelia originate from Brazil, Peru and Columbia and can be found from sea level up to 1,500 meters, often attached to branches of trees and receiving partial sunlight. There are about 100 species in the genus. A large number of hybrids have been created recently because of the wide range of patterns and colors in their leaves.

Although Neoregelias are epiphytic and can be mounted in wood slabs, they can also be grown in pots with a well-drained organic compost medium. They like bright (but not full) sunlight and should be watered regularly, making sure that its cup is not allowed to dry out.
