Agave geminiflora (agave=Greek for illustrious, noble, admirable) originates from the arid deserts of Northern and Central Mexico. It was described in 1817 by the English botanist John Bellenden Ker Gawler. The name "geminiflora" (twin flowers) refers to the two flowers arising from each bract of the flower spike.
A mature plant can have a diameter of 1 meter across. It has a lifespan of 8 - 10 years, after which it produces a tall flower spike up to 5 meters high, and then dies.
Agave geminiflora can be planted on the ground or in containers with a well-drained medium and in either full sun or shade. It can tolerate periods of drought and water only when the medium is dry. It is not frost resistant.
