Sansevieria pinguicula was first described by the Swiss botanist Peter René Oscar Bally in 1964 in Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia). The term "pinguicula" is derived from the Latin word pinguis (fat), referring to the shape of the leaves.
S. pinguicula is slow-growing, and should be planted in a sandy well-drained medium. It should be watered sparingly and placed in a bright sunny place.
Its common name is "walking sansevieiria" because when mature, it brings out plantlets that are elevated above the medium by stilt-like roots.
